I mainly use them for photographic editing but I did load Call of Duty and it looked great at all settings. After adjusting the settings the monitor performs very well.

I think this is how they want them to look in the stores to catch people's attention. The stock settings on the monitor come with a brightness that is nearly blinding and the saturation of the colors is turned WAY up.

I used the nVidia software to adjust the color and to control the saturation. When I read the reviews online about the monitor I realized that the software that came with it was not worth the trouble, so I never opened it. I'm using a new GeForce 9600 card with 512MBs of DDR3.

I installed them and downloaded the updated drivers from Microsoft. I bought 2 of these monitors about 3 weeks ago. So far, I'm extremely happy with my purchase. In defense of that, the base of the monitor swivels perfectly, so you can point it in any horizontal angle, which is awesome.

It does look a little funny when you view it from angles other than just looking at it straight on, although that's not really a problem. I'd have to say, my only complaint would be the viewing angles. The smallest of texts and fonts are very clear, visible, and easy to read. Heck, even web browsing and simple instant messaging looks great. I have yet to see any ghosting or trailing whatsoever and I do a lot of gaming. The 226CW model, however, is a guaranteed Samsung panel and it also has a wide color gamut which, so far, has proven to display the most vibrant and amazing colors, with a very minimal amount of tweaking the settings. I chose the 226CW model specifically because the 226BW monitor can randomly use one of three manufactured panels, two being rather subpar, while the true Samsung designed panel is the superior one, and I didn't want to risk those kind of odds just to get the one I really wanted. When I was in the market for a widescreen LCD monitor, I took a look at some of the cheaper brands such as LG and MAG, both of which seemed decent, but upon taking a look at the Samsung monitors, I realized that decent just doesn't cut it when you're making this kind of purchase. I was tempted to bring home my colorimiter from work and do an external monitor calibration, but honestly I'm afraid I would only mess up the already excellent color balance. If you buy in a store, make sure you ask SPECIFICALLY for the CW and not the BW if this is what you want. I think Best Buy is still clearing out stock on the 226BW, though, because the CW box was hidden way up high onthe shelf. Out of the box it needed no adjustments at all. I was happy to spend a few dollars more for the guarantee, but it seems slightly dishonest of them.Īs for the monitor itself, it's amazing. Personally I think it's a little lame that Samsung charges more money for a minor performance tweak, when they should really just come right out and say "It costs more because we gaurantee the panel came from us." Otherwise the panels are identical in spec and performance, but this time it's gauranteed to be from Samsung, because the other manufacturer's panels cannot meet the improved color spec. When I saw that Samsung was offering the 226CW, I could tell it was almost identical, but they've tweaked the colr gamut slightly for better performance. The A and C panels have problems with color levels and backlight bleeding.

The S-Panel, made by Samsung was the best of the bunch. Those monitors are sort of a gamble, though, because Samsung started shipping them with panels made by other manufacturers. I bought this monitor specifically because I had been wanting a Samsung 226BW.
